# How to read a record — Contractors prequalified by State Departments of Transportation

> What the record is, what the status means, and what is left out.

## How to read these records

### The record

To bid on state highway work a contractor must first be prequalified by the State Department of Transportation, which checks its finances, equipment and experience and lists the kinds of work it may bid on. Each State publishes its own list. This site brings the lists together: Illinois and Florida so far, with each contractor's work categories.

### Status

On the agency's current prequalified contractor list. Two States so far. Illinois work categories are shown as IDOT's own codes. Phone numbers, e-mail addresses and bid addresses in the State files are not shown. A prequalification is not a contract.

### What is not here

Individuals, and any name without a company word (Inc, LLC, Corp, Co…). Owner and contact names, phone numbers
and mailing addresses, which this site never downloads.

**For owners and managers: does
your company have 30 to 200 employees?**

AI labs pay companies to license their internal workflows (SOPs,
documentation, support tickets), anonymized and under contract. You keep ownership and pay nothing.

**Describe your company in 2 minutes →**
Offered by Registres, an independent data gateway. Not affiliated with any State Department of Transportation.
