What this is
To bid on state highway work a contractor must first be prequalified by the State Department of Transportation, which checks its finances, equipment and experience and lists the kinds of work it may bid on. Each State publishes its own list. This site brings the lists together: Illinois and Florida so far, with each contractor's work categories. This site keeps the companies — names that carry Inc, LLC, Corp and the like — and makes them searchable by name, type and place.
Who uses it
- Suppliers and landlords — is this company in the United States file, and since when?
- Sales teams — companies by type and place, and the newest ones.
- Owners — your own record as the source publishes it.
What it is not
Not any State Department of Transportation, and not a certificate. Individuals and names without a company word are left out. Two States so far. Illinois work categories are shown as IDOT's own codes. Phone numbers, e-mail addresses and bid addresses in the State files are not shown. A prequalification is not a contract.
